A total of 11 very diverse grassroots community groups from across the Coffs Harbour City Council area are celebrating winning a share of $258,816 in the latest round of Council’s Community Capital Infrastructure Grants (CCIG) Program to create or develop new facilities to enhance local sport, education and social wellbeing.
They include Woolgoolga Lake Working Group Inc which has received $85,820 to assist with planned upgrades of the Woolgoolga Lake Reserve to improve water access, walkways and stabilisation of the foreshore areas from erosion. (Pictured above is Woolgoolga Lake).
Red Rock Multi-Use Centre is another winner with an $11,000 grant for renovations to the existing building.
The Sawtell and District Soccer Club plans to renovate the exterior of the change rooms at Toormina Oval which is part of a major enhancement of the amenity block to provide new female friendly change rooms and facilities for players with disabilities. The Club received a $20,067 grant in this round.
The Aspect MacArthur School in Coffs Harbour provides high needs autism specific education, but its kitchen was in need of renovation. Under the CCIG Program, Council has provided $12,045 to assist a project that will accommodate food technology and cooking classes for students, as well as improve overall safety.
“These grants always show what a lively, engaged community we are,” said Coffs Harbour Mayor Councillor Denise Knight. “I’m always blown away by how much is going on at a grassroots level to improve our whole way of life. The members of these groups who put so much work and commitment into achieving better facilities deserve an enormous round of applause. They’re all amazing.”
