First Australia robotics workshop.

Free Robotics Workshops for a number of local school students run by passionate science advocates will be a highlight of this year’s Startup Coffs Coast 2018 on Saturday, June 2, and everyone – whatever their age – is welcome to come along and watch the robot-building action on the day.

“Robots are fascinating and exciting and this is a fantastic opportunity for local students to give robot-building a try with the help of an expert,” said Stephen Saunders, Council’s Section Leader Industry and Destination Development.

“The workshops are run by First Australia, an organisation striving to inspire today’s students to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering or maths through a shared love of robots.

“Their mission is to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.”

The morning session is for students in Years 5 and 6 and the afternoon for students in Years 9 and 10. Participating students were selected by submitting brief essays on robots and what they would like to create. The workshops are supported by Macquarie University and their experts will also be on hand to guide the student builders.

“You don’t have to be taking part in the workshops to come along to watch all the robot making action. You’d also be very welcome to take a look around Startup Alley to find out more about all the innovative businesses already happening on the Coffs Coast,” added Mr Saunders.

Startup Coffs Coast includes Startup Alley, Keynote Speakers and a Live Pitch Competition featuring this year’s Startup Coffs Coast Finalists.

It will be happening on Saturday, June 2, from 9am to 5pm at Coffs C.ex, Vernon Street, Coffs Harbour. Pre-register online for free entry to enjoy all the day’s activities including the live robot-building sessions, at startupcoffscoast.com
