All Things Botanical on Offer at Garden

A week-long bonanza of events and activities – culminating in the ever-popular Botanica Plant Fair – is on offer at the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden from May 22-27.

The activities include:

Tuesday, May 22, 10am-12noon. ‘Your Responsibilities under the Biosecurity Act 2015’ with Tim   Bekis, Council’s Weeds Inspector and Biosecurity Authorised Officer. Tim will discuss property owners’ responsibilities under the new Biosecurity Act and answer questions. Limited places available so please book.

Tuesday, May 22, 12.30pm-2.30pm. Identify bushland weeds with Aaron Hartley from Council’s Bush Regeneration team. He will look at environmental weeds and garden escapees in our local native bushland. Limited places available so please book.

Wednesday, May 23, 10am-12noon. ‘Grow roses on the Coffs Coast’ with commercial rose grower Allan Betty. Limited places available so please book.

Thursday, May 24, 10am– 1pm. Botanical Careers Day for Year 6 and Year 10 students. Workshops for students to highlight potential career paths in botanical-based industries. Speakers include representatives from National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), Office of Environment and Heritage, TAFE NSW and the florist sector.

Thursday, May 24, 1pm-3pm. The ‘Diversity of our Botanic Garden’. Author and plant expert Barry Kemp will walk you through the diverse range of plants that are on display in the Garden. Limited places available so please book.

Friday, May 25, 7-9.30pm. Nocturnal Walk in the Botanic Garden. Walk through the Botanic Garden with NPWS officers and explore and discover the creatures of night. This is always is always a fun experience. Limited places available so please book.  (Bring a small torch and warm clothing).

Saturday, May 26, 8.30am-2.30pm. Botanica Plant Fair. Winter is a great time in Coffs Harbour to plant and establish plants before the summer heat. It’s also the most pleasant time to be working in the garden.

Sunday, May 27, 9am-5pm Open Day. Guided tours in an open people mover for a gold coin donation, visit the Seedbank and Herbarium (10am-12noon), check out the Powerful Owl (if he’s not hiding), or maybe just take a walk, enjoy the surroundings and see what’s changed since your last visit.
