The call is out for entries for this year’s StartUp Coffs Coast 2018, the successful showcase for local businesses, which is being launched on Tuesday, March 27, at Dark Arts Brew and Bar.

“Last year’s winner – environmental scientist and teacher Louise Hardman – recently returned from a meeting with Prince Charles in London to discuss her waste plastic recycling machine The Shruder which wowed the StartUp Coffs Coast judges in 2017,” said Stephen Saunders, Council’s Section Leader Industry and Destination Development.

“Louise’s success underlines the huge potential that local inventors and entrepreneurs can unlock through taking part in StartUp Coffs Coast.”

StartUp Coffs Coast 2018, which will take place on June 2, is themed The Future@Work – People, Places & Technology.

It will follow a similar style to last year’s event with expert speakers focusing on innovation in key industries, a showcase of local startup businesses and a Pitch Competition to showcase ideas with winners receiving cash and prizes to assist their business growth.

This year’s event will also see the addition of a futuristic ideas and innovation hub for business to trial new products and learn applications for their businesses.

“If we can help increase the number of technology startups and innovative companies on the Coffs Coast, we can help grow jobs. The wider economy will also be boosted by the use of local services and products by these same companies,” added Mr Saunders.

The Launch on March 27 will bring together previous winners and finalists, along with innovative business leaders. It will kick off a series of helpful how-to workshops for incubating or existing businesses to polish their application for the Pitch Competition.

Local business owners, service providers and the wider community are invited to the StartUp Coffs Coast Launch from 5.30 to 7.30 pm at Dark Arts Brew and Bar, Cox Lane, Coffs Harbour.
