Festivals Get Council Funds Boost

The Woolgoolga Blues and Berries Community Festival, Screenwave International Film Festival, the Coffs Tri and the 2018 MTBA Downhill National Mountain Bike Series are among the first events to receive funding from a brand new programme launched by Council earlier this year.

“Coffs Harbour is internationally recognised as an event-friendly city, having been awarded the globally-recognised ‘World Festival and Event City Award’ for three years in a row,” said Daniel Heather, Council’s Section Leader for Stadium and Major Events.

“The city is really making a name for itself as a regional destination for events with tens of thousands of visitors coming to the Coffs Coast every year to enjoy events and the natural beauty our area has to offer.”

In August, Council unveiled its new Coffs Coast Events website – www.coffscoastevents.com.au – an online resource to help event organisers plan their events.

At the same time, the new funding programme – specifically designed to support new, and grow existing, events in Coffs Harbour – was launched.

“We would encourage anyone involved in local events to visit www.coffscoastevents.com.au to make good use of the free tools and resources available, which are all designed to help you run your events as successfully as possible,” added Mr Heather.

Carl Mower, event manager for the Blues and Berries Festival said: “Taste Coffs Coast is extremely grateful to Coffs Harbour City Council for the support we have received for our inaugural Blues and Berries Community Fair in Woolgoolga. We are confident that with the event funding we have received from Council, this new event will be successful and will showcase the benefits the blueberry industry brings to our area along with sensational blues music on the day.”

Dave Horsley, Festival Director at the Screenwave International Film Festival, said: “The Event Seed Funding provided by Council has enabled the festival to explore more growth opportunities at a critical stage of SWIFF’s early development. In addition to the funding, the Event Seed Funding team provides additional promotion, advice, and engagement as festival partners to bring a more inclusive and successful, growing festival to the Coffs Coast.”
