Youth Week 2017

Coffs Harbour City Council is supporting a number of events in this year’s National Youth Week including a free movie night and youth art exhibition.

National Youth Week – March 31 to April 9 – is the largest celebration of young people in Australia. Thousands of young people aged 12-25 from right across Australia get involved in the celebrations every year. This year’s theme is ‘Get involved, be heard, make a difference’.

The week is an opportunity for young people to share ideas, attend live events, have their voices heard on issues of concern to them, showcase their talents, celebrate their contribution to the community, take part in competitions and have fun!

In 2016, about 4,000 young people across NSW were involved in planning and organising activities and events such as forums, debates, photography exhibitions, fitness activities, writing competitions, hip hop dance classes and concerts. More than 100,000 young people participated in more than 900 local activities and events.

This year Coffs Harbour City Council is helping sponsor:

6 April – National Youth Week Free Movie Night at the Jetty Memorial Theatre:

  • 5pm Zach’s Ceremony (Winner of the SWIFF 2017 Audience Award)
  • 7pm Free food and music in the Theatre Gazebo

31 March to 13 April – Yellow Door Art Exhibition will be held on the top floor of Coffs Central Shopping Centre. The exhibition is a showcase of artworks by young people from the Coffs Coast. The Yellow Door represents how art connects all people and can open doors for young people with barriers such as mental health.

The launch of Youth Week and the Yellow Door Art Exhibition will be held at Coffs Central on Friday, March 31, from 4pm-7pm with live performances by young people and free food.

Other local Youth Week activities include: Coffs Harbour Youth Futures Forum, Youth Homelessness Matters Day activities, 3-on-3 Basketball Comp & Activities Night and Youth Week Hump Day Idol at Coffs Hotel.
